Etymology - Genus: To spring or leap; referring to the genus Salix.
Etymology - Species: Four-seeded.

Location: Near Pune Hospital, Baner Ram River
Description: Naturally observed in riparian habitat (on the banks of the river). Medium size, deciduous tree. Main trunk is dark with vertical cracks while sub branches are grey, smooth.Shiny simple leaf.Lanceolate leaf lamina, serrate margin. Inflorescence (male as well as female) appear in leaf axle and emerge out of a small brown bract, which then turns into leaf. Flowers are arranged in catkin inflorescence. Leafless tree glows with bright yellow flowers. Flowering season is very short and is observed in first week of Nov for the tree near Pune Hospital bridge, Pune.Flowers are dioecious - male and female flowers appear on different trees. Flowers are arranged spirally along the peduncle (stack of inflorescence)Since male and female flowers appear on different trees, both trees should be in same area for female tree to bare fruits. Fruit is a capsule bearing 4-6 seeds.Saplings can be grown from branches.
